Fundamentals of communication:

The meaning of communication is the response you observe or get so pay more attention to the response to see if your message is getting through. Just because you have communicated the information does not mean they have interpreted it as you wanted so check – ask them to play back their interpretation or understanding to ensure your are both on the same map!

Perception is reality – it doesn’t matter what you believe it is what they believe that is the most important. So do not trigger the Guard by arguing it seek to understand and then influence from their Map not yours

Rapport which means having respect for each other trusting each other and wanting to work together, means meeting people at their Map of the World….

The behaviour you observe in others is often a reflection of your intervention and their interpretation of it? So what are you doing that is influencing the behaviour you see?

A person convinced against their will is of the same opinion still. So seek to influence them from their Map so they take ownership and responsibility for the application and result….

Filter Identification Advice:

Visual, Hearing & Feeling senses are the front door what is their preference…ask them?

Listen to understand what is important to them? Then response to this, not what you think is vital. Align your needs to their importance filters to get the best response…

Are they BIG or Small chunking? Outcome or detail focused? What do they need to be doing?

To be solution focused they must be in the ‘Towards’ state so focus on solutions not problems

If high OTHER give more support, advice and feedback if high SELF empower more and ask them how to solve first…

When they need to make decisions focus on, is it Similarities or Differences that will engage them

Ask the question ‘What time zone are they referencing PAST/PRESENT or FUTURE?’ and use

Remember Associated state for action and delivery and Disassociated to be objective and see big picture
